Estradiol (E2, oestradiol) is a sex hormone. Estradiol is abbreviated E2 as it has two hydroxylgroups in its molecular structure. Estradiol is about 10 times as potent as estrone and about 80 times as potent as estriol in its estr0genic effect. Except during the early follicular phase of the menstrual cycle, its serum levels are somewhat higher than that of estrone during the reproductive years of the human female. Thus it is the predominant estr0gen during reproductive years both in terms of absolute serum levels as well as in terms of estr0genic activity. During menopause, estrone is the predominant circulating estr0gen and during pregnancy estriol is the predominant circulating estr0gen in terms of serum levels. Serum estradiol levels have clinical valuable of diagnosis menstrual abnormalities, menopause, infertility and precocious puberty.

Principle:
E2 kit is based on competitive method. Coat micro well plates with E2 antibody. Add E2 calibrator (or patient sample) and HRP-E2 to form E2-antibody—HRP-E2 complex. The binding amount of HRP-E2 is reversely proportional to E2 content in serum. Remove the unbound E2-HRP. Add substrate and detect absorbent value. Calculate E2 content of patient serum through computer or plotting fitting concentration-absorbent value curve.
